Belle Isle Will Get Fifty New Canoes

An early spring note was struck Tuesday when the Common Council approved the purchase of 50 canoes for Belle Isle at an estimated cost of $3,700. Henry W. Busch, commissioner of parks and boulevards, said the canoes would be the first purchased since 1922.

Canoes still make for a popular outing on Belle Isle. Today you can still explore the canals and inlets throughout the park via canoe and kayak. Don’t own a canoe or kayak? No worries. Never been in a canoe or kayak? No worries. Rentals, lessons, and tours are available beginning mid-May.
